Hadassah College Jerusalem is Certified as a “Green Campus”

29Sep10

In March 2010 Hadassah College Jerusalem received from the Israel Ministry of Environmental Protection certification as a green campus. A nationwide effort is in effect in Israel to promote environmental issues by certifying schools and academic institutions as “green” campuses.

At Hadassah College all students are encouraged to take courses in environment issues. In the building “light pipes”, were installed that transmit natural light from outside inside for energy saving. In the laboratories, the college has reduced the use of chemicals and increased the use of environmentally friendly materials. Recycling of paper, plastic bottles and batteries is being done on a regular basis.

On a community level, all freshman students in Environmental Health Sciences will get a full scholarship and be required to work in environmental community projects throughout the city of Jerusalem. To ensure our continued efforts in creating a sustainable campus, the college established a “Green Council”, headed by the president of the college, Prof. Nava Ben-Zvi and includes faculty, student and administrative representatives.
