Hadassah Medical Organization Teams-Up to Prevent the Spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa

24Aug10

3 years ago the Hadassah Medical Organization and the Jerusalem AIDS Project teamed up to implement “Operation Abraham” – a medical and public health response to support scale up measures to enhance male circumcision (MC) services for HIV prevention in a number of interested countries Africa. Hadassah physicians went then to Swaziland, performed circumcisions and trained local physicians how to do it.

Recently, the king of the Zulu tribe in South Africa who wanted to fight the spreading of AIDS among his people, decided to adopt the adult male circumcision for his people. Two weeks ago the delegation from Israel arrived at the Kwazulu Natal Province in South Africa and started the second chapter of Operation Abraham. Under the medical management of Hadassah pediatric surgeon Dr. Eitan Gross, the small delegation has been training local medical teams how to perform hundreds and even thousands of circumcisions efficiently and successfully.
